About this Blog

Purpose

My purpose in this blog is twofold.  My primary goal with this blog is to inform the general public about their rights in a wide array of legal situations to help people avoid many of the common mistakes that I see every day in my own legal practice.  My secondary goal, I will admit, is also that after reading my thoughts and advice here, you will consider hiring me or one of the attorneys at the firm I work for in order to assist you through the legal challenges you face.  So, this blog is primarily informational, but also part promotional.  Please note, however, I will do my best to not mix the informational and promotional portions of this blog.  When I am asking you to retain me, it should be clear, and you should be able to safely assume that the information I provide outside of asking you to retain me is not influenced by any promotional goals.

About The Blog Title

I've titled this blog "The Law is Your Friend."  It may seem an odd choice if you are in a challenging legal situation - but I think it fits.  What most people don't realize is that all the complex rules and regulations that make up the bulk of our legal code are designed to protect you.  The main thing that gets in the way of using the law to protect yourself is the fact that most people simply do not know what the law is.  The purpose of my blog is, largely, to give you that information so that no matter what situation you are facing, the law can, in fact, be your friend.

About Me

So, at this point you are probably wondering who on Earth I am.  My name is Samuel Leven, though I go by Sam.  I am an attorney working at The Baldwin Law Firm in Northern Virginia.  I am a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law's Class of 2010.  I have spent time as a fellow in the Loudoun County Public Defender's Office - giving me a smattering of criminal law experience - but most of my career has been with The Baldwin Law Firm.

The Baldwin Law Firm primarily practices family law and estate planning, but I have developed my own niche practice within the Firm, giving me experience in a wider array of fields.  I do practice a lot of family law, but I do not do contested Custody/Visitation law anymore - I found those cases to just be too much for me emotionally and I derived little satisfaction from them, even when I won.  That being said, other attorneys at The Baldwin Law Firm do handle custody/visitation.

My practice areas are divorce (uncontested, childless, or with custody/visitation already resolved), child support, adoption, landlord/tenant disputes (either side), appellate litigation, consumer debt collections (either side), and contract drafting, interpretation and enforcement.  I am a litigator, so I am certainly at home in the courtroom.

Finally, you may notice that I post on practice areas that neither I nor anyone in The Baldwin Law Firm practices.  For those situations, if you like the thoughts I have provided, if you reach out to me I may be able to refer you to other attorneys I know.

If you are interested in setting up a consultation with The Baldwin Law Firm, you can feel free to call us at (703)281-0134.  Your initial consultation for up to half an hour is free.  Further, I can be reached at SLeven@thebaldwinlawfirm.com.
